Premium quality, NZ produced pure Manuka honey.
Watson & Son Manuka Honey is harvested from some of the most remote and pristine regions of New Zealand from the flowers of our native Manuka tree. It is a unique taonga (treasure) of our land. Naturally occurring Methylglyoxal is an ingredient present in genuine Manuka honey. We guarantee that all our Manuka honey is tested and verified for its Methylglyoxal content, measured in mg /kg.
Watson & Son welcomes the release of the Interim Labelling Guidelines for Manuka honey that will provide greater confidence and certainty for consumers looking for the genuine product. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has worked closely with scientists and the industry for over 6 months to develop these guidelines, designed to be consistent with the requirements of the Australia-New Zealand Foods Standards Code 2013, as it applies to honey.
MPI has identifedMethylglyoxal (MG or MGO) as an ingredient that can be identified in labelling and marketing Manuka honey, expressed as a minimum number of mg/kg. Scientific evidence has confirmed Methylglyoxal as being a key compound that occurs naturally in Manuka honey.
Current Manuka honey product labelling such as NPA 5+, 10+, etc are considered a therapeutic claims. From January 2016 these will no longer be allowed under the Food Standards Code, bringing consistency to label claims based on Methylglyoxal as the ingredient that sets Manuka apart from other honeys.
Many Watson & Son customers will see no change, as they already enjoy our genuine Manuka honey that has been using these parameters on our labels for some time. If you are looking for the 'real thing', look for Manuka honey with a Methylglyoxal content above 250 mg/kg on the black label of your next jar of Watson & Son Manuka honey.
All Watson & Son honey is rigorously tested to ensure that our label claims can be verified by accredited scientific laboratories.
As a member of the NZ Manuka Honey Exporters Collective, our honey will carry either an NPA rating (from 5+ to 25+) or an MGO rating (from 100 - 1600). These are the two standards adopted by the Collective to give you the consumer every confidence that you are buying genuine NZ Manuka Honey with real ant-bacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits, throughout the shelf life of the product.
