The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has worked closely with scientists and the industry for over 6 months to develop these guidelines, designed to be consistent with the requirements of the Australia-New Zealand Foods Standards Code 2013, as it applies to honey.

CurrentManukahoney productlabellingsuch asNPA5+, 10+, etc are considered a therapeutic claims. From January 2016 these will no longer be allowed under the Food Standards Code, bringing consistency to label claims based onMethylglyoxalas the ingredient that setsManukaapart from other honeys.
